ED Legal

Strategy first.
Solution second.

ED Legal is a multi-disciplinary legal counsel and dispute resolution practice that evaluates legal matters together with their strategic dimension, defines the scope, and manages the process accordingly.

It handles corporate commercial legal needs and sensitive individual legal proceedings under one roof, with the same discipline. Based in Istanbul, the practice has been in operation since 2016.

ED Legal is a multi-disciplinary legal counsel and dispute resolution practice that handles corporate commercial legal needs and individual proceedings concerning family, inheritance, lease, and personal status under one roof.

Areas of work include commerce and corporate law, contracts, international trade, cross-border processes, energy, real estate, criminal law, family and inheritance law, intellectual property, and dispute resolution. Legal support is provided in both Turkish and English. Files involving foreign elements, cross-border document processes, and multilingual contract work are among regular areas of practice.

ED Legal does not limit itself to legal evaluation alone. With a structure that offers advisory support in financial consulting, independent audit, and financial analysis, it can examine files from multiple dimensions. This structure enables the evaluation of legal matters without separating them from commercial and financial reality. For files requiring financial and economic assessment, the practice collaborates with MNR SMMM.

ED Legal was founded in 2016 by Av. Ece Tuğba Saka and Av. Derya Eser. During its establishment, the over 45 years of professional experience of Av. Sıdıka Saka played a decisive role in shaping the practice's working discipline and approach to files.

Our Approach

Every engagement falls into one or more of three core categories. Multiple types of work may exist within the same file. We define the scope and clarify what is to be done. No work begins without the client's explicit approval.

Advisory

Producing legal opinion, risk analysis, and a roadmap. The initial evaluation of a file and the construction of its strategic framework.

Transaction

Drafting a contract, formal notice, petition, or application. Work that requires the production of a concrete legal output.

Representation

Attending meetings on behalf of the client, conducting negotiation, and managing mediation or litigation.

Our Work

ED Legal conducts corporate and individual legal matters within the same structure. The following headings show the principal areas in which the practice regularly works. Each file is evaluated on its own merits; no standard template is applied.

Commerce, Companies, and Corporate Counsel

We work within a broad framework, from companies' day-to-day legal needs to structural transformation processes. Corporate counsel, board and general assembly resolutions, partnership structures, corporate restructuring, and the legal framework of commercial relationships fall within this area.

We can respond to a range of needs, from regular advisory relationships to one-off corporate opinion requests.

Contracts, International Trade, and Project Relationships

A contract is the legal infrastructure of a commercial relationship. The preparation, review, and negotiation of national and international contracts sit at the centre of this area.

Frameworks such as CISG and the ICC Incoterms in international sales contracts, GAFTA in commodity trade, and FIDIC and EPC in project-based relationships are among our regular areas of work. Contracts can be prepared in Turkish, English, or bilingually.

Real Estate, Lease, and Project Relationships

Property purchase and sale, lease relationships, condominium disputes, cooperative structures, and construction-in-exchange-for-land contracts are the principal headings of this area.

Real estate matters are often not only legal but also financial and structural. In these files, ED Legal evaluates the technical legal assessment together with the balance between parties, the distribution of risk, and the strategy of the process.

Family, Inheritance, Guardianship, and Personal Status

Divorce, custody, alimony, marital property regimes, succession and inheritance distribution, guardianship, and citizenship applications fall within this area.

Individual legal proceedings often carry significant emotional weight and require sensitive communication between parties. In these processes, ED Legal does not regard legal knowledge alone as sufficient; establishing the right communication, making the process manageable, and creating ground for resolution are carried out as inseparable parts of the work.

Intellectual and Industrial Property, Digital Domains

Trademark registration and infringement proceedings, the protection of intellectual and industrial rights, disputes arising from software and digital content, domain-name disputes, and legal processes concerning digital assets fall within this area.

The law of the digital domain is a rapidly changing ground whose boundaries have not yet fully settled. ED Legal takes the existing legal framework as its basis but also marks areas of risk and uncertainty separately. Particularly in trademark and intellectual-property infringements, the speed of the process and the correct order of steps are decisive — for this reason, the strategy is established at the outset of the file.

Labour Law, Associations, and Foundations

Labour-law files often arrive at a breaking point: termination, claim, reinstatement, severance. In these files, timing, document order, and the initial steps of the process directly affect the outcome. ED Legal works on both employee and employer sides and first clarifies the legal position in every file.

Association and foundation processes require a different discipline: establishment, charter preparation, governance structure, general-assembly proceedings, and legal compliance. These structures are subject to their own specific legislation and require regular legal follow-up. ED Legal establishes and manages the legal framework of these processes from formation through operation.

Enforcement, Bankruptcy, and Dissolution of Partnership

Debt collection, enforcement proceedings with and without judgment, bankruptcy and composition, and dissolution-of-partnership cases are the headings of this area.

In these proceedings, timing and compliance with procedural rules are decisive. ED Legal manages enforcement and bankruptcy proceedings on both creditor and debtor sides; in dissolution-of-partnership cases, it evaluates the party's position and the cost–benefit balance of the process from the outset.

Criminal Law

Tax penalties, economic crimes, and serious criminal cases are at the focus of this area. Criminal-law proceedings often carry both individual and corporate consequences; for this reason, establishing the legal position correctly at the outset is of critical importance.

In criminal-law files, ED Legal manages the entirety of the process — from investigation to prosecution and from first-instance trial to appellate review.

Dispute Resolution, Mediation, and Arbitration

Not every dispute needs to result in litigation. In dispute management, ED Legal first evaluates the situation, determines the legal position, and structures the most appropriate path to resolution together with the client.

Mediation, arbitration, enforcement, pre-litigation settlement work, and litigation management are the headings of this area. Within ED Legal there are lawyers both registered with the mediator registry and trained in arbitration.

Our Team

ED Legal is built on three partners whose areas of expertise complement one another. Corporate and commercial law, individual legal proceedings, and criminal law are conducted under the same roof and with the same working discipline. The team is reinforced by associate and intern support.
